Important Quotation
![Picture](/uploads/5/7/3/8/5738994/872233.jpg)
“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.
“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
This conversation happens at the beginning of the book when Gandalf explains the history of the Ring to Frodo. Gandalf's response to Frodo's is heroic because he explains that sometimes we must rise to great challenges that are presented to us during our life. However, in this quote, there is also the suggestion that someone is born at a particular time and in a particular place for a certain preordained purpose.

The Fellowship
This clip shows the Council of Elrond. The Council has been called because of the threat of war in Middle Earth. There is only one way to destroy the One Ring and that is by throwing it into the fires of Mordor from where it was created. You need to know the names and race (e.g. hobbit, wizard, elf) of the nine characters who volunteer to take the ring to Mordor.
The One Ring: An Introduction
This opening scene in the film explains how the One Ring was created, and lost. The nine human kings are given nine separate rings (from which Sauron wishes to control them using his ring) become addicted to the power and turn into the nine Ringwraiths (the Black Riders).
This scene shows how those nine kings now look. The Nazgul is another name for the Ringwraiths or Black Riders.
Gandalf vs Saurman
In this scene Gandalf goes to his old friend, the wizard Saurman, for help regarding the ring and Frodo. Here he finds that Saurman has turned evil and wants the power of his ring for himself. He has taken over the land of Mordor and is building an army to attack the whole of Middle Earth.

Art-English Spelling Project
![Picture](/uploads/5/7/3/8/5738994/959753.jpg)
When you return back after the holiday, you will notice there is a strong link between your Art and English classes. Even though it is not obvious straight away, both subjects focus on expression and creativity - for example, in Art you can express yourself through images and in English you can express yourself through words.
We are going to begin 2011 with a simple Spelling Project and then develop the relationship further throughout the year.
On Wednesday, 5th January, you will have a spelling test in Art in exactly the same way as you do in English. The words you have to learn are all words connected to Art. However, the marks will not only go towards your final Q2 Art grade but also your English mark. The results will be displayed on this website alongsite your English spellings.

The Tempest 2010 Movie
When you watch this just be aware that Shakespeare wrote Prospero as a man. These film makers have decided to use a female actor to play Prospero and show the story in a different way. There is nothing wrong with this and it keeps Shakespeare fresh and his stories interesting but when you talk about Prospero, you refer to him as a 'he' or 'him' because we are staying true to the original story.
